The path to flexible recruitment doesn’t always start with an employee requesting to work flexibly. It doesn’t even necessarily begin with an employer contacting a recruiter like us, to find a flexible worker. Sometimes, it can be a simple conversation about the type of work that needs doing, which can result in an unexpected flexible working fix.
Recruiting the right staff isn’t always easy…
When we’re talking to employers about the benefits of flexible working, we’re often amazed by the different outcomes it can lead to for them – or even for someone they know. Like, for example, a recent conversation we had with someone who had been through a series of marketing graduates.
They would start these young employees on a full time, low-ish salary, getting them trained up to a level where they began to be productive – usually after three months or so. But then, this member of staff would quit suddenly after six months or so, leaving the client back where they originally started.
Flexible workers offer experience, skills and dependability
We’re not saying all graduates behave like this, but they are often looking for their next move because they’re young and ambitious – plus they can easily be lured by the bright lights of London or abroad.
When we explained to our client about the benefits of flexible workers – the fact that they could have a marketing professional three days a week with at least 8 years’ experience under their belt – someone who could hit the ground running, living locally, seeking stability from a position – we had what we call, one of our flexible working ‘light bulb moments’.
Free up your time to spend elsewhere on your business
We also recently helped a small business owner who was swamped with paperwork and administrative tasks. They found they were spending less and less time on the important things like growing their business. They needed someone experienced but didn’t think they could afford it, so were putting up with the situation.
We suggested an experienced Office Manager – someone who could immediately take their admin stress away and free up their time to spend elsewhere on the business. Within a few weeks, we’d found someone who could work four short days per week to bring real benefits to the company. In this way, we’ve also helped to detect a need within our clients’ businesses for short-term Project Managers, Sales Support roles and more.
