Summer news, it’s already been a very busy year and, as well as successfully placing a number of excellent candidates within local businesses, we have been getting involved in a number of other initiatives related to returning to work after a career break and how to achieve the flexibility you desire.

With a new school year on the horizon maybe it’s the right time for you to start thinking proactively about your options?

Obviously, our main focus at Ten2Two is seeking part time flexible opportunities for you but we did want to share some other things we have been involved with in the wider field.

Being self-employed?

Have you considered “going it alone” and joining the increasing number of the UK workforce taking the plunge to become self-employed or freelance?

Fact:  Freelancers/self-employed account for 14% of the total UK workforce and the number of female freelancers has grown by 67% since 2008

Fact: reports estimate that more than 71% of freelances are women between the ages of 30 and 50…

Here at Ten2wo we have been doing our bit to get involved and raise awareness of this option:

  • FSB  “Think Self Employed”: we recently attended a FSB (‘the Federation of Small Businesses’) brunch where they launched their campaign “Think Self Employed”. As part of this initiative a Sevenoaks Start-ups group has been launched and they are holding their 3rd meeting, called “the big pitch” at the Sevenoaks District Council Chamber on 17th July 2018. They are hoping to attract people who want to talk about their new business as well as those who can give advice. If you are interested in getting involved, you can find out more here.
  • BBC Radio Kent:  on 19th June, Kirsteen was a guest of Paul Obey’s business show discussing becoming self-employed and running your own small business. You can listen to the podcast here.

Returning to Work Programmes?

In 2017 the Government launched this initiative to help women back to work after a career break, boost skills, and close the gender pay gap. It continues to support this initiative and we were recently involved, attending a conference in London run by the Government Equalities Office. You can find out more about this event here.

If you are thinking about setting up your own business or applying for a returnship programme we’d be happy to talk and share our thoughts.

Member Get together on Tues, 11TH September, 10am – 12pm, SEVENOAKS – APPLY HERE

Come along and meet the Ten2Two team as well as other Ten2Two members if you’ve not done so already. We’d love to get an update on your current job requirements or even news about a new job you’ve just started. We’ll talk about our recent placements, clients we’re working on and any tips we’ve learnt in recent months which might help you secure the perfect role.

CV Workshop on Fri 21st September, 10am – 12pm, ORPINGTON– APPLY HERE

This popular workshop takes you through how to create the best CV you can. Remember your CV is the first step in securing a new role; it’s the selling document which will get you through the door of a potential employer. For many of us our CV has been neglected and not updated to reflect our current skillset and the role we’re now seeking. We’ll look at the best CV for you and discuss a skills based CV. The workshop is interactive, good fun and there is no preparation required, just a willingness to participate and a copy of your latest CV (in whatever state).

Member Get together on Wed, 10th October, 11am – 1pm, TONBRIDGE– APPLY HERE

Come along and meet the Ten2Two team as well as other Ten2Two members if you’ve not done so already. Interview Skills on Fri, 2nd November, 10am – 12pm, TUNBRIDGE WELLS– APPLY HERE

This workshop looks at the different types of interview you might expect and how best to prepare for them. Interviews are stressful enough and being prepared is the key to successfully getting through to the next stage. We’ll share some hints and tips as well as some questions you might want to consider in advance. It’s interactive, fun and a good way to meet other Ten2Two members in a similar situation who always have great tips to share from their own experiences.

We do like to meet as many of our members as possible, it really does help when we’re putting you forward to clients. If we haven’t yet met you and you’re not able to make one of these dates, do please get in touch and we’ll organise a time to sit down for a quick chat over coffee.
