‘I saw a great role, but it was full-time…’

I meet with amazing candidates every week.  Candidates who are really fed up with seeing so many good roles only advertised as full-time.  They know they are more than capable of successfully delivering results in that role, could do it with their eyes closed, and in fewer hours.

To successfully combine work life and home life, you need to be able to focus on what needs to be done, and just get it done.  With fewer hours at their disposal in the office, there is no time for a 25 minute catch up at the coffee machine!

The saying ‘if you want to get something done, ask a busy person to do it’ really resonates with my candidates.  Efficient, proactive and busy people, getting the job done in fewer hours.

 

Flexibility works both ways…

Very recently I met with a candidate who has had years of experience in Customer Service roles – delivering customer service as well as improving the overall delivery of the customer service teams.  After 25+ years in a successful career, this candidate, like many of our candidates, wants to take a step back from her more senior roles for a few years.

The flexibility she is looking for is to drop from 5 days a week to 4.  However, even then, if there were a problem on the 5th day and she were needed, she’d be there!

I hear this willingness to accommodate the needs of a growing business, in exchange for a working pattern that enables them to balance the demands of family AND work life, almost daily.
