We work flexibly …. yes all of us in the Kent team. If you ever wondered if it could work for you or how others make it work let me tell you. There are four of us in the business here in Kent. From left to right on the photo you have me, (Andrea), Lorraine, Kirsteen and Jemma.

Over time we have got to know our business and the behavior of our candidates and clients. We have a good understanding of when our candidates are more active identifying crucial pinch points in the day or week when staffing levels can be issue. We also understanding how many hours the business needs to achieve our goals. As the saying goes you only get out what you put in! Working the flexible model has enabled us to tap into the fantastic talent pool of experienced people we could probably not afford otherwise.

With all this data we have now built the business to a dream team of Four. Lorraine and Jemma working as support across three days each. Then myself and Kirsteen (officially) working four days.

The business is split into two main functions. Jemma partners with me covering business development, sales and marketing and Lorraine and Kirsteen are the operations Finance and recruitment ninjas working hard on behalf the client and the candidates, ensuring other dream teams are built.

Here are some of the essential skills of making the flexibility work.

Communication. We have some excellent cloud based software which enables us to record up to the minute information about each client, candidate and role. We also use a cloud based VoIP phone system which allows for remote working when required.

Buy In.  Its all very well having the best systems but they are useless if nobody uses them ! Its essential everyone understands the importance of keeping work flow documented and up to date.

Accountability. Having clear objectives and working within a time frame means avoiding the “I thought you were doing that” conversation. The whole team are extremely productive and add a huge amount of value.
