24th December 07 to 2nd January 08 - Seasons Greetings!

After a very hectic first year, the team at Ten2Two want to wish all their members and clients a very Happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year. With our ecological hat on, we opted to make a financial donation to the Pepper Foundation rather than send our members Christmas cards. The Pepper Foundation is a charity that exists to alleviate suffering by funding home care to seriously ill children throughout the Chilterns area of Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire.

3rd December 07 - More great press coverage for Ten2Two

Cindy Withey, one of our members hits the headlines in the local press. Cindy was one of the first members who registered with us. She was very happy in her role at City and Guilds, but the commute into Central London was becoming harder and harder as her children started school. Her real passion was Corporate Social Responsibility, but she came to Ten2Two looking for something more local and was very open minded about what she could do. Ten months later she started at Grass Roots as their Corporate Social Responsibility Manager helping them define their strategy and putting into action a number of key initiatives.

20th November 07 - How to become a Successful Flexible Worker

As part of our commitment to developing our member support programme we had a great response when we ran an event 'How to become a successful flexible worker.' The event covered a number of key areas from both an employer and employee angle, and from an emotional and practical perspective. Following the success of the evening, we will be repeating this in Jan 08

Remember Remember the 5th November 07 - Getting to know you…

As the numbers of members registering at Ten2Two continues to rapidly increase, we held one of our first evening 'getting to know' you sessions. We invited over 50 of our newly registered members to come in and for us to get a better understanding of their working requirements.

These kind of evenings will continue to supplement our bi-weekly member surgeries and regular one on one member meetings. For any additional information about this please contact jane@ten2two.org

31st October 07 - Understanding Employers

In our mission to change attitudes and promote flexible working, we are spending some of our time listening and understanding employers attitudes. We have recently met with BT, KPMG and Coca-Cola to hear their thoughts and understand how these may influence our approach going forward.

15th October 07 - Herts Lifestyle Magazine Features Ten2Two

Ten2Two and one of our members, Elise, are featured in a very positive article in Herts Lifestyle, the glossy monthly magazine from the Gazette. The article entitled 'Mum's the Word', show-cases how Elise has returned to a senior level position, working flexibly, with the help of Ten2Two. Editorial like this is very helpful in persuading local businesses of the benefits of flexible working so we're naturally very pleased.

26th September 07

Building relationships with local businesses is key and 26th September will see Ten2Two host its second Business Breakfast to discuss how to make flexible working work within their organizations. If you would like to attend please contact Ruth on ruth@ten2two.org or phone on 01442 874247.

To further support local businesses, Ten2Two along with help from some of it's HR Professional members are creating a new, simple 'how to' guide about flexible working. Our aim is to give companies straight-forward, practical steps to creating and recruiting a flexible role. It will also highlight areas of consideration for the day to day management of teams that feature flexible workers. Further details on this will be available shortly.

11th September 07

Ten2Two runs the second CV and Interview Tips and Techniques workshop for members. This workshop is free to all Ten2Two members and not only provides a relaxed, social environment for members to meet each other but also gives them the opportunities to learn, fine tune and practice 'selling themselves' to future potential employees. If you would like to attend a future workshop please email jane@ten2two.org

5th September 07

30th August

Ten2Two members help Early Learning Centre launch an extension to their brand offering - 'FiredUpKids'. Earlier in 2007, Ten2Two ran a number of research groups (using Ten2Two Members) for ELC who were keen to explore whether the concept of providing people with imaginative gift ideas for kids a little older that ELC's typical 0-5yrs market would be welcomed by consumers and to understand what shape a new offering should take.

ELC were delighted with the feedback our members gave them and have now launched a range of inspirational gifts for the 5-10 year old market - go and have a look on their website to find out more http://www.elc.co.uk/firedupkids/.

12th August 07

Ten2Two reaches a new milestone as the number of members who have joined reaches 350, this number continues to grow daily as more and more people hear about Ten2Two. Word of Mouth still proves to be the key factor when we ask how new members have heard about Ten2Two which is hardly surprising given the fantastic networks that women (and men) create in their lives. These networks have also attracted members from as far as the USA where we are a couple of members registered!

9th July 07

Ruth Evans joins Ten2Two as Client Development Director, she brings with her a wealth of experience having spent the last 11 years working in the recruitment industry. She will be working with local businesses helping them structure and fill flexible roles with skilled and talented members of Ten2Two.

Members: Members dress for the occasion

Ten2Two have worked with Muse, a successful women's clothing retailer in Berkhamsted, to provide advice and guidance on the best way to dress for work in 2007.

Following feedback from members who asked for help on how to dress for the office (possibly after not having worked in a formal working environment for several years) stylishly, appropriately and economically. Over two evenings in early June, the owners of Muse talked about what to and what not to wear in an environment that has seen dress tone down. Members were given a discount if they bought clothes on the night, which a number of people did.

Elise Matthews, A Ten2Two member who will be returning to work in June took the advice to heart. 'We discussed the idea of signature pieces and the value and flexibility of one or two strong accessories. I took their advice and had a great time!'

Members: Ten2Two 'Surgeries' provide a helping hand

To support new members, Ten2Two have launched a series of 'Member surgeries' where members can join a session at the Ten2Two offices in Berkhamsted to discuss the work options they may have, the things they need to consider when returning to work and to discuss the process of working with Ten2Two to start working again.

The surgeries are fortnightly and members should email Jane O'Gorman at jane@ten2two.org to check dates and book a session.

Ten2Two talks to the local community

As part of Ten2Two's celebration of the second annual Work Wise Week, (16 May - 22 May), Mandy Bobrowski was interviewed live by BBC Three Counties Radio to call on businesses to consider the value of using flexible working practices to attract the right people to their organisations.

Mandy was accompanied by Austen Hawkins, Managing Director of Berkhamsted-based F2F Events, organisers of 'The Back Show'. F2F has just recently filled two vacancies with Ten2Two members. 'The calibre of people that Ten2Two provided was outstanding; the only difficulty was making a final choice because the quality of the candidates was so high,' said Austen.

Ten2Two proving to be a hit for working mums

To coincide with the start of Ten2Two's first permanent placement, the Hemel Gazette has published an article in this week's edition and we thank them and of course Archer Young and Helena Winter-Brown for their support.

The article in full is as follows:

'A new Berkhamsted business that pairs full-time mums with child-friendly working hours has made its first match.

Former TV programmer Sabia Morrison is getting to grips with her new role as an accounts executive for an award-winning company in Berkhamsted.

She is the first client of parent-friendly job agency Ten2Two to be matched with a company which offers highly skilled jobs to mums who want to work in hours that fit around the school run.

Ten2Two launched officially in March and is building a database of mums who left high-flying careers to have their children. CEO and founder John O'Sullivan said of the initiative: "Our strategy is to attract a strong group of members so we can approach local businesses to show them what they're missing."

John says the agency has signed up more than 100 members in just three weeks. He goes on to add: "We're already talking to local businesses about meeting their needs. We held a welcome evening just a couple of days after we started marketing and over 60 mothers turned up. The response has been fantastic."

Mum of two Sabia, 40, had been working part-time as a PA but had a 15 year career in TV before having her children. She said: "I could make my PA job fairly interesting but it wasn't giving me enough. But it's so hard to find a decent company who will give you the hours that fit around schools.

"My new role is managing events which is similar to the job I had managing programmes for TV. It uses the same skills, it's just a different product. I'm not belittling my last job, but it is very hard when you've worked up through your career to have to go backwards because of the hours you can do. I wasn't getting any satisfaction. I was just working for the sake of working."

Sabia will be working at Berkhamsted-based Archer Young where she will be managing corporate events and travel.

She has signed up for four working days a week during the child-friendly hours of 9.30am to 2.30pm.

Sabia said: "I'm certain Ten2Two will be very successful because there are hundreds of skilled women who have had professional jobs. We need something like Ten2Two to promote this workforce. Just because we can't work full time doesn't mean we don't have a lot to offer companies."

"I'm really looking forward to getting into my new job. I'm very grateful to Ten2Two and I really hope they do well, as I'm sure they will."

The initiative is coming to Hemel Hempstead in the coming weeks as the Ten2Two team starts talks with Dacorum businesses and companies on Maylands industrial estate.'

Members: Local community supports Ten2Two

Ten2Two had its first member event last night at the Berkhamsted Civic Centre, aimed at introducing the organisation to the local community.

Over 60 new and potential members turned up to listen to Ten2Two's CEO, John O'Sullivan introduce the organisation and to hear a stimulating and action oriented presentation from Jenny Copeland, one of the UK's leading personal coaches on how to find balance between home and work, especially for mothers returning to the workplace.

Jane O'Gorman, Ten2Two's Director of Member Services was delighted with the reaction. 'Feedback from the audience was wonderful. It's critical that members create the right environment when they're returning to work and Jenny's recommendations on how members assess support networks and how to adapt their living routines to enable them to enjoy their return to work was enlightening for many.'

This event was the first in an ongoing programme to support members. The next events are scheduled for early June.

Ten2Two Goes Live

Ten2Two was open for business today. The (mostly part-time) Ten2Two team has achieved a remarkably fast start-up, with development starting in earnest only in early January of this year following a period of research and development. With some great support from some leading marketing, legal and systems people and organisations, Ten2Two will be registering it's first members immediately.

'I'm delighted that we've been able to launch so quickly' says John O'Sullivan, CEO. 'The team have been incredibly focused, especially as word of our development had started to spread and people were calling the office to register.'

'Our aim is to develop a strong list of members that we can market to local businesses to show them what they're missing. We've already had some interest from local businesses but we feel some will take some convincing that flexible and part-time working can benefit them. The strength of our members (the people who have registered and looking for work) will be the thing that can convince them' said John.

Ten2Two's can be contacted on 01442 873873; via email at info@ten2two.org or via their website at www.ten2two.org
